Proficient Health announces the release of its flagship application – Proficient Orders – to efficiently manage the communications between physicians and outpatient centers.

Local Triad entrepreneurs ahead of the curve.
Greensboro, NC – July 20, 2009 – Proficient, LLC announced today the release of its flagship application, Proficient Orders, enabling hospitals, physicians and healthcare providers to manage the communication of physician orders and related protected health information.
Proficient Health CEO Robb Hutchison states, “Interviews with healthcare administrators and physician groups across the Carolinas indicated that the dynamic growth of outpatient care has driven demand for tools that improve communication and management of workflow processes. Proficient Orders was designed specifically to meet that demand.”
According to the US Census, the US outpatient services market is amongst the fastest growing sectors in the healthcare industry. “This is significant because the orders for patient services among hospitals, providers and physicians will continue to move toward reducing hospital stay expenditures,” added Hutchison. This translates to patient services that must be ordered, transferred, tracked, registered and possibly audited.
Current methods of communicating include telephone and manual fax-based models resulting in limited accountability, slow response time, privacy issues and an ever-growing amount of paper records. In many cases, health information management policy requires paper documentation to become part of the patient’s medical history, housing long-term and costly downstream effects on the care delivery model.
Following the mandate by the Obama administration, provisions for the economic stimulus bill include “The utilization of an electronic health record for each person in the United States by 2014.” Hutchison indicated “Our focus is to be the communication channel between the existing paper based workflow processes and the plethora of electronic medical record systems available today.” Hutchison, further added “The cost associated with accessing, copying, filing, faxing, re-filing, storing and manually keying the data received through paper-based workflows and disparate systems, poses a tremendous amount of time, money and risk in inaccurate data entry.” By leveraging the electronic workflow of patient orders through an established system significantly automates the process, increases efficiencies and reduces the risk of and cost associated with inaccurate data entry at all levels.
Proficient’s web-based platform leverages a service-oriented architecture (SOA) and enterprise service bus (ESB) technology that improves delivery and sharing of critical data in a multi-tiered, high availability (HA), and highly secure infrastructure, “all critical components when considering sensitive data found in medical records and patient history profiles” stated Rick Reddel, Proficient’s CTO.
The Proficient platform is designed to accommodate both paper-based and electronic transmission of information requiring no change in a physician’s current workflow processes. Reddel added “Our platform enables a unique migration strategy of paper-based to electronic communications. The set up is simple and tied into existing office systems via the internet and can reduce costs associated with the management of records by 30% in the first month of use. Audit trails and reporting functionally are significant given the mandate for hospitals to comply with the RAC Medicare Program and Medicaid MIC audit activities.”
$ 2.2 Trillion was spent on healthcare in 2007, (US census Bureau) representing the most important healthcare product and services market in the world. Hutchison stated “it’s amazing that with cost effective and available technology, US health care providers are still processing critical data manually.” Healthcare spending in the US is expected to grow at a CAGR of 7% between 2007 and 2012. (Market Potential for Hospital Services).”
